Tuesday, 31 October 2006
VMFC announces that it's swapping it's traditional blue kit for a red one to show support and highlight the 25 years of hard work being carried out to combat HIV in the Northwest.
As well as being the length of a game of football, every 90 minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with HIV. When the boys at Village F.C. found this out they wanted to do something to help raise awareness of this in the run up to World Aids day on December 1st.
In addition to helping the North West based Lesbian & Gay Foundation at a number of their World Aids Day fundraising events, the club has taken the decision to change the colour of their kit for the first time in it’s 10 year history from blue to red and now matches the Red ribbon which symbolizes World Aids Day.
Village FC spokesman Jason McAuley said “the Northwest of England has the third highest number of diagnosed HIV positive men in the UK, we want to play our part in raising funds to assist those who are HIV positive and raise awareness of this totally preventable disease not only around World Aids Day but throughout the rest of our season”.
