Enough About You....Let's Talk About Me

Boogaloo Stu releases new album

Monday, 21 January 2008

Time Out calls him a glam-infused disco king, i-DJ a finger puppet on poppers whilst Julie Burchill is quoted as saying he’s a “gorgeous disco biscuit”. We here at Real City Network can’t think of what to call him. Problem is we’re too busy dancing to his new album ‘Enough About You...Let’s Talk About Me’ to write. But if you insist. Let’s talk Stu.

You can’t miss him; he brings that touch of much needed glamour (and knitwear designs) so often missing on the club scene. Boogaloo Stu ticks all the boxes in cities across the globe. Stu founded the Brighton nightclub institution Dynamite Boogaloo and soon Boogaloo Stu, DJ and performer, was born. Encompassing a unique and inspired pop play list, the night also featured legendary performance pieces from Stu and his associates. Sixteen years on and the club night is still thriving. Add his London ventures at his own night Shinky Shonky, his joint venture with popjustice.com at Trash Palace in London, his legendary appearances at Duckie and clubbing adventures in cities including Manchester, Edinburgh, Blackpool, New York, Paris, Moscow, Tokyo and you’ll begin to get why this Boogaloo is one star bound boy.

‘Enough About You’ is the follow up album to Stu’s 2004 ‘The Glambassador’. It’s a slice of day-glo electronica that will insist you dance. There’ll be no wallflowers when this twisted beauty hits the soundsystem. Reward indeed for the work Stu’s been doing. “I’ve spent the past three years holed up in my studio writing, tweaking and perfecting these songs and I think this music has a certain charm and integrity. You might find this hard to believe if you’re aware of my reputation as a club land clown. Point taken. And equally dressing up like a 19th Century day-glo dandy doesn’t really help when you’re looking to be taken seriously. But this my own sweet music, crafted quite separately from my ‘other’ career... I’ve written these songs to be heard and enjoyed and I really hope that’s what happens.”

With guest appearances from Metronomy’s Oscar Cash and Lucy Bundy ‘Enough About You’ has to be heard to be believed. But then maybe not. When a man dresses and performs the way Boogaloo Stu does you just know there’s a great electro-pop moment on its way.
