business newsBirmingham wins wellMonday, 14 January 2008 Birmingham is the toast of the Midlands and the East this week as the results of the Pink Paper Readers Awards 2008 were announced. Rubbing shoulders alongside winners including Kylie, Ugly Betty and those Sugababes, Birmingham’s nocturnal activities were well rewarded. Best Club (Midlands and the East) went to Birmingham’s Nightgale Club with DV8 in second place, Nottingham’s NG1 in third, Leicester’s Liquid in fourth and Northampton’s Boston Clipper in fifth. Best Bar or Club (Midlands and the East) also went Birmingham’s way with Glamorous Showbar hitting the top spot. The Loft Lounge came second with Boston Clipper, Niche in Nottingham and The Village Inn and Hotel in Birmingham hitting third, fourth and fifth respectively. The Fox in Birmingham was a worthy runner up in the Best Women’s Venue category taking on the likes of Vanilla and the Candy Bar, whilst Nightingales in Birmingham came fifth in the Best Club (across Britain) category. All proof – if proof was ever needed - that the Birmingham scene can hold it’s own both locally and nationally. Long may she continue to do so.
